The Qualities of Carrier Oils

When you choose a carrier oil make sure that it is 100% pure, cold pressed and unrefined.

Carrier Oils are used to dilute essential oils, create salves and lotions along with wonderful infused oils used for massages.

One of the favorites used by many herbalists and one of my favorites is olive oil.

It really is medicinal in that it nourishes and feeds the skin so it’s doing a lot of other good work in addition to the herbs that are infused in the oil. It’s also really stable so it’ll last a long time. Just make sure that you purchase cold pressed extra virgin olive oil.

Another one that I really like is grapeseed oil.

It’s really light non-greasy and it has a lot of additional benefits and that includes resveratrol which is a great antioxidant and has vitamin E and linoleic acid. So it’s a fabulous oil to use. It’s also great since it is so light non-greasy it’s really good for those massage oils.

Another one is almond oil and even apricot oil which is really good for sensitive skin.

So if you are making any kind of remedies for those with any kind of red irritated conditions such as rashes or maybe even skin care products for rosacea or red inflamed skin. Those two choices would be really good to use.

Jojoba is also great it’s not actually an oil it’s really a wax but it is most similar to our own sebum. So it is another one of those that is really exceptional to use for skin care products that actually nourishes and heals the skin. And it’s also really very stable. It’s a little expensive but in some cases it might be worth the splurge.

Apricot Kernel Oil : as the name suggests, it is from the kernel of the apricot. It is light yellow in colour, is a light oil and absorbs well. Rich in vitamins A, B and E which are great for skin rejuvenation. This oil is great for sensitive skin types, great for the face, leaves the skin feeling silky smooth and is a great moisturizer.


Avocado Oil: This oil is rich in vitamins A, D and E and is packed with essential fatty acids. It is great for face absorbs well and help cell regeneration so is very good for mature skin.


Grape Seed oil: Is an astringent so is good for toning and tightening the skin.


Wheat germ oil: This oil is super rich in vitamin E which makes it great for your skin to regenerate it and give it a healthy glow.


Coconut oil : a perfect oil to moisturize the skin and also is great for the hair. It is very calming to the skin so great for skin conditions that are inflamed.


Jojoba oil: This is my ‘go-to’ oil for hair and skin problems. It is great for all skin types and gives a nice healthy glow to the skin. It absorbs very well. This is very good for acne and oily scalp because excess sebum is dissolved in jojoba.

It is also very good for muscular and joint pains and is very soothing for inflammatory skin conditions such as dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis.


Rosehip oil: Here is another fabulous carrier oil for the skin. It is made from cold pressing the seeds of rose hips. It is great for cell regeneration, is anti-aging, very calming for inflammatory skin conditions and is also good for PMS and menopause. You can also combine it with calendula oil to treat stretch marks and scars.


Calendula oil : Here is a very calming and soothing oil. It is great for oily skin and can be used as is, or blended with other oils.


Evening primrose oil: A very well known oil because of it’s calming properties on the skin. It is a great moisturizer and skin softener as well.


Sweet almond oil: This is the most widely used carrier oil for massage. It is moisturizing and absorbs very well. It is also rich in vitamin D. It is great for all skin types and especially good for inflammatory skin disorders.
